SydLUG is excited to confirm that SLGG (Sydney-L-Gauge-Group) will be displaying a layout at this year’s AMRA show at WHITLAM LEISURE CENTRE Memorial Avenue, Liverpool, 1-3 October. SLGG is a division of SydLUG that primarily focuses on model railroad displays, but unlike traditional model railways, uses LEGO as the artistic medium.
This year’s display will consist of a large city, country village and dock area, as well as feature realistic locos and rolling stock. We hope to see many of you there!
Last weekend (6th & 7th August) saw SydLUG attend the 2nd annual Canberra Brick Expo. In a more spacious room, thousands of people flocked from all over Australia to see the LEGO creations from 25 exhibitors (including Australia’s very own LEGO Certified Professional Ryan McNaught) and one LEGO designer – Jamie Bernard.
Most people who braved the queues outside were very pleased and astonished by the detail and variety of the Lego creations. SydLUG was proud to contribute and looks forward to next year.
The 14/15th May saw SydLUG attend the Sydney Aviation Model Show at Bankstown Airport. The show featured various model aircraft shops, exotic cars and of course, our Lego display. The 9×9 baseplate layout was based on a country airfield in the Asia Pacific region. All who attended were amazed by the amount of Lego and the Easter eggs littered through the layout. How many can you see? (Try to find a soccer ball, Australian WW1 troops, Australian Special Forces, a Star Wars Droid plus many more).
SydLUG members have been busy lately preparing for a couple of upcoming shows.
The Sydney Aviation Model show is on next weekend (14/15th May) at Bankstown Airport and BrickExpo is on in 3 months at Canberra. If you are a Sydney Lego fan and keen to see some great creations, head on down to Canberra to check it out.
Other news is that we are busy organising a Sydney Show, “The Sydney Brick Show” which is planned for around Easter 2012!! Watch this space 🙂
The 15th and 16th January saw 13 SydLUG members drive, fly or train down to Melbourne to display various MOCs at Brickvention 2011. The displays included town, western, pirates, interesting architecture, trains, robots, technic, sci-fi MOCs and even Hogwart’s Castle. The Western layout “El Bricko” won the people’s choice award. The public turned out in force queuing for up to 2.5 hours to enter the display area. A brilliant event with most of the big builders from the eastern Aussie states in attendance.
G’day and welcome to Sydney LEGO Users Group website, where afols (adult fan of lego) from across Sydney, Australia meet monthly to share their ideas, creations and discuss LEGO, Adventurers to Znap and all things in between.
Our members have been active in displaying at public events to share their passion for the brick with the community.
SydLUG always welcomes new members who have an interest in LEGO, whether new to Lego, just come out of the dark ages or lifetime devotee. If you have any questions about the group, or suggestions for the website please email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
