July saw members of SydLUG return to Max Webber Library, Blacktown for the second year, providing a week-long display for the beginning of the school holidays. A new feature at the event was having members working on MOCs live, allowing visitors to engage with the building process. Members were able to share tips on techniques and answer many questions from children and adults alike. The exhibition titled ‘BrickBuilt’ will return to the library in 2020.
Partnerships with local public libraries have become very important to SydLUG in recent years, providing valuable opportunities for our members to share their hobby with an interested audience while at the same time, assisting libraries in cementing their place as a community hub for learning and inspiring creativity and imagination. July 18, during the second week of the school holidays, SydLUG provided a small display for Cumberland Libraries’ Regent’s Park branch. The event included a kids’ building area which was filled with kids from open till close, every inch of the play area taken up with enthusiastic brick building.
SydLUG finished the month with an exciting opportunity to host our biggest brick fair event to date – North Sydney Brick Fair held on 20th-21st July. In partnership with Home HQ Artarmon, the 2-day event attracted over 2,000 visitors and was a great success. The event would not have been possible without the generous support of Home HQ, and we thank the group for providing us with the chance to hold this event.
MOC highlights at the show included the debut of the full series of four stunning Game of Thrones mosaics; a hilarious Game of Thrones Family Feud diorama; 500 minifig habitats; a moving parts fairground with UFO Spinner and Big Drop rides; monochrome towers; a Great Ball Contraption; a large city layout with trains; a highly detailed series of houses; giant locomotive; giant spaceship; aircraft carrier; Dr Who Brickheadz; Pigs Vs Porgs battle diorama with mechs, and a Wild West main street with moving parts.
The kids’ play tables were well utilised over the weekend, and TV’s LEGO Masters contestants Henry and Marielle made appearances to meet and greet eager fans. A fantastic weekend was had by exhibitors and the visiting public.
