May began with SydLUG attending a new event, the Camden Brick Spectacular held at the Camden Town Hall on May 4 and 5. This inaugural event attracted almost 4,000 people over the weekend, many of whom were excited to meet LEGO Masters winner, Henry who is a proud SydLUG member. Displays were impressive and included the Hungarian Opera House, St Mark’s Bell Tower, WWI dioramas, monochrome towers and a large city layout including trains and airport. There was a large kids’ building area which was busy most of the weekend and given its success, the event plans to return next year.
SydLUG once again helped the Kingsgrove Bunnings store celebrate all the amazing mums in the local area, displaying at the Mother’s Day Family Night on May 9. Displays even included some special Mother’s Day MOCs by SydLUG builder and mum, Kirsten. The event was well attended by locals who enjoyed the variety of activities on offer including roasting marshmallows over a campfire; face painting; a jumping castle; wood fired pizza; a giant Connect 4 game, and petting zoo. SydLUG will return to celebrate dads for Father’s Day later in the year.
Next it was time for a trip up the mountains, with SydLUG once again displaying at the Kurrajong Hobby & Motor Show on May 18 and 19. The SydLUG display was awarded ‘Best Static Display’ for the second year in a row for their impressive city layout. The event was a popular one with over 100 classic cars on display, market stalls and collectibles dealers, and an open fire and BBQ to keep everyone toasty warm. SydLUG are excited to return to the event next year to see if they can score a hat trick!
