June was a particularly busy month for SydLUG with a few of our most well established and attended shows taking place.

Engadine Brick Fair celebrated its third year on the 2ndJune, raising over $8,000 for their local Scouts group. SydLUG’s builders were out in force with MOC highlights including the debut showing of Kumamoto Castle and the Mechapede Base, a massive city train layout including five loops, the War Memorial and military maxi-figs.

The June long weekend once again brought the popular Epping Model Railway Show attracting over 7,000 visitors, with SydLUG providing a city train layout for the fifth year.

SydLUG member Matt, who coordinated the SydLUG display said: “This show was the largest SMILS (SydLUG Modular Integrated Landscaping System) based layout so far,  with nine people contributing everything from buildings, train track, roads, vehicles, minifigs, helicopters, trains, trees and a whole lot of other goodies. It was well received by the crowd and SydLUG builder, Hando’s “Bacon City” creation brought smiles to the faces of all who saw it. The layout used our large radius curves for the first time which gave us a chance to sort out a few teething problems and plan improvements for the future.”

It wasn’t all familiar shows for SydLUG this month, with the LUG appearing at pop-culture event, Supanova in Sydney from June 21st-23rd. LUG representatives enjoyed talking with the public about upcoming shows, membership and all things LEGO! The small, but eye-catching display included a teaser of a four panel Game of Thrones mosaic by Kristie and the iconic Thor’s hammer and Captain America’s shield.

To close out the month SydLUG members were happy to return to one of their favourite shows, the Inner West Brick Fair, held on June 30th. In its fourth year, the show attracted a record crowd of over 3,000 people and showcased builds from over 30 exhibitors. One of the most popular exhibitors was LEGO Masters winner and SydLUG member, Henry, who debuted a wild west main street MOC and brought along the LEGO Masters trophy.

A number of SydLUG builders had new displays for the Inner West show including houses, a mountain temple, baby Groot and a maxi-scale locomotive. Money raised goes to Croydon Public School to help provide valuable resources for its students.

SydLUG hopes to return for each of these events in 2020.
